Facebook has recently announced that they will start placing ads on stories that were able to reach a total of 150 million views in a day. Although many SEO experts view this initiative as a strategic move for Facebook, many digital marketers and site owners see this as an opportunity to promote their websites through Facebook ads.
It can be remembered that Facebook has rolled out the “Stories” feature about 14 months ago and this eventually caught the interest of its users. Within the said period, the use of the feature has become popular as evidenced by some stories that were able to reach more than 150 million daily views. Thus, Facebook saw the opportunity to place ads on stories that successfully reached the above-mentioned number of views for promotional purposes. Facebook’s current move is also somehow viewed as the social media platform’s way of coping with the same ad placement efforts that Instagram has already conducted. It can be remembered that Instagram has earlier introduced a feature which similar to the “Stories” and it took such function about 5 months to reach the 150 million daily views mark. After reaching the said milestone, Instagram has then started placing ads on their version of the stories and the results seemed profitable. Aside from the announcement about the placing of ads, Facebook also revealed that they have started the tests this month in Mexico, Brazil and the USA. They started placing ads in the form of 5-to-15-second videos that Facebook users can easily skip and proceed to another story. As of the present, Facebook explained that the ads placed on qualified stories still offer no benefits to brands. In short, these are currently used for exposure purposes. However, Facebook is planning to add ads with click-through value and those that come with call to actions in the coming months. Given these moves and upcoming plans, many digital marketers and website owners view this as a way for them to promote their products and services given that Facebook is quite popular and can reach a relatively large portion of the web population.
